Experiences shared by retirees in Thailand

SR

Somchai Rattanakul

Retired civil servant, Bangkok

"I had received the same pension figure for three years and something about it did not add up. Atchara went through my statements page by page and spotted a calculation that had been applied incorrectly since I retired. The written summary she gave me was very clear. The reassessment request took about two months to process but the office did correct the figure."

Priya Wongsuwan

Retired teacher, Nonthaburi

"After my husband passed, I was receiving correspondence about the pension that I could not make sense of at all. A friend suggested I contact Thidin Counsel. The consultation gave me a clear picture of where things stood. The counsellor was very patient — she repeated herself when I needed something explained again, and I never felt rushed."

Narong Tanachai

Retired engineer, Bangkok

"My appeal was not a simple matter. Somsak was thorough — he assessed the situation carefully before suggesting we proceed, which I appreciated. He was clear that outcomes are not predictable and did not promise anything he could not deliver. The appeal took longer than expected but he kept me informed throughout."

Amporn Charoenwong

Retired nurse, Pathum Thani

"I booked a consultation mainly because I did not know whether I had a valid concern or not. The counsellor told me honestly that the figures in my statements appeared correct and that a reassessment would be unlikely to change anything. I was a little disappointed but genuinely glad I did not spend money on something unnecessary. That kind of honesty is not so common."

Kanya Phomsiri

Retiree, Chatuchak

"Nattaya handled all the documentation and kept in touch regularly. I never had to chase for updates. The office is also easy to reach from where I live, which helped as I preferred to come in person rather than communicate by phone."

Wichai Lertpaisarn

Former government official, Bangkok

"I came in with a lot of paperwork and was not sure what was relevant. The team sorted through it calmly, explained what mattered, and sent me a written note afterwards. The whole consultation was about ninety minutes, which felt right — enough time to cover everything without going in circles."

Three client situations, in more detail

Names have been changed. The situations and outcomes are real.

Case Study 01 — Consultation

Understanding a pension statement after thirty years of service

The situation

A retired civil servant received a pension statement she found confusing. Several line items were unclear and two figures did not seem consistent with her recollection of her employment terms.

What we did

We reviewed the statement against her employment records, explained each component in plain terms, and identified one line item that appeared to have been calculated using outdated contribution rates.

The outcome

Client left with a written summary and a clear understanding of her position. She chose to proceed with a reassessment request in a separate engagement the following month.

"I felt much calmer walking out than I did walking in. Knowing what the numbers actually mean made a real difference."

Case Study 02 — Reassessment

Addressing inconsistent figures with the Social Security Office

The situation

A client's pension payments had changed significantly following a system update at the relevant office. He had been receiving less than he believed he was entitled to for approximately eight months.

What we did

We documented the discrepancy, prepared a formal reassessment request with supporting calculations, and submitted it to the relevant office on the client's behalf. We followed up at three-week intervals.

The outcome

The office acknowledged the error after eleven weeks and corrected the monthly payment. The correction was applied prospectively. A partial retrospective adjustment was also made.

"Somsak handled everything. I did not have to visit the office once, which was a real relief."

Case Study 03 — Appeal

Formal appeal following a partial reduction in pension entitlement

The situation

A client had received notice that her pension entitlement had been reduced due to what the office described as a reclassification of her employment category. She disputed the basis for this.

What we did

After assessing the case carefully, we determined there was a reasonable basis for appeal. We prepared the appeal documentation, organised supporting employment records, and submitted the formal appeal.

The outcome

The appeal process took approximately five months. The decision was partially upheld — the reclassification was overturned and the original entitlement was reinstated going forward.

"I was told at the outset that the process would take time and that the outcome was not certain. That was honest. And it did take time. But the result was fair."
